5/23/13 Summer Key Largo Fishing Report Backcountry

Well the summer fishing in key largo is pretty good.  Had Byron out 2 days this week.  Tuesday we caught some snapper and trout, enough for dinner, plus a ton of ladyfish.  We then caught a few blacktip sharks, and moved to another area where we caught a big ‘mud marlin.’  This is a BIG bottom dweller that is a lot of fun to catch.  Later we caught some may redfish key largo.  The bite was good for them we got 20 or so reds, plus a nice snook too.  Today we had a westerly wind which is usually bad news, fishing key largo west wind.  We made the best of it though and caught some nice big mangrove snappers on fresh ballyhoo that we chummed up and netted.  Later we found some more trout in the bay including some nice size 20 inchers.  We caught a big lemon shark too, and on the way home we stopped and caught a nice key largo tarpon fishing in may.  Great way to end the day!
